During a year rife with political turmoil, global pride celebrations – and celebrations of diversity, in general – seem more important than ever. With that in mind, Fierté Montréal pulled out all the stops for this year’s pride celebrations, bringing in the biggest names from the award-winning competition show: RuPaul’s Drag Race.
With the addition of some top Québécois talent, last night’s Drag Superstars event, hosted by Montréal’s own Rita Baga brought out approximately 15,000 to Parc des Faubourgs. Featuring season 9 winner Sasha Velour, along with favourites Naomi Smalls, Kim Chi, Raja, Tatiana, and a ton of other RuPaul queens, Drag Superstars was an evening of showgirl prowess, and of demonstration of how a subculture has made its way to the forefront of the mainstream.
