As Christmas approaches, Montreal’s holiday markets are popping up throughout the months of November and December. Throughout the city, there are one-off and recurring events that provide your token twinkling lights and spiked hot chocolate, as well as the raw creativity of local makers selling their wares.

This isn’t about some sanitized, corporate Christmas. We're talking about markets where you’ll find handmade goods from artisans who work out of their basements, food stalls slinging their goods, and strong mulled cider and wine. Each has its own vibe—some are cozy and quaint, others are chaotic and alive, pulsing with local energy.

  • Marché des Fêtes - Locoshop Angus (November 16-17): Known for its warm, community-focused vibe, this market highlights local artisans offering a range of handcrafted goods, from ceramics to jewelry. With its festive ambiance and charming decor, it’s an ideal start to the holiday season.
  • Christmas Artisan Market (November 22-24): Set in the creative Montreal Art Center, this market showcases the talents of local artisans. Visitors can browse unique, handmade items while enjoying the artistic energy of the venue, making it a treasure trove for finding one-of-a-kind gifts.
  • Grand Christmas Market of Montreal (November 22 - December 30): The city’s most expansive holiday market transforms Place des Festivals into a winter wonderland. Visitors can enjoy a diverse array of artisan products, food vendors, and entertainment, from carolers to light displays. It’s an iconic destination for locals and tourists alike.
  • Japanese Holiday Market (November 23-24): A cultural gem, this market blends the traditions of a Japanese winter holiday with the festive spirit of Montreal. Shoppers can find Japanese crafts, food, and gifts, from delicate handmade items to flavorful culinary treats like mochi and matcha.
  • Marché de Noël de Montréal-Nord (November 23-24): Organized by the Cercle de Fermières, this holiday market at the Centre de Loisirs Montréal-Nord features a variety of artisanal gifts, including mini magnet canvases perfect for stocking stuffers. Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 23 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 24, the event offers free parking, creative workshops from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., and a colouring mural for kids on both days. A casse-croûte will also be available to keep you fueled while you shop.
  • Marché de Noël Etsy Laval (November 23-24): Explore a curated selection of high-quality local craftsmanship at this festive market hosted by Etsy Laval at Collège Laval (1275 Avenue du Collège). Open November 23 (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.) and November 24 (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.), the event features an array of handmade goods, including jewelry, ceramics, crochet, clothing, body care products, gourmet foods, zero-waste items, and art.
  • Montreal Christmas Village (November 28 - December 22): This picturesque market, set against the backdrop of Atwater Market, is a must-visit for its cozy wooden chalets, twinkling lights, and the aroma of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts. Perfect for families, it often features live performances and holiday activities.
  • Marché de Noël de l’Abbaye d’Oka (November 29 - December 1): Set at the historic Abbaye d’Oka, this festive holiday market spans two weekends, offering a unique shopping experience in a charming setting. Visitors can explore an array of handcrafted gifts and artisanal products, perfect for the holiday season.
  • Le Marché des Artisans Récupérateurs (November 29 - December 1): Held at the Esplanade Tranquille Pavilion, just west of Clark Street, this eco-friendly holiday market showcases the creativity of over 40 local artisans. Each vendor offers unique, handcrafted gifts made with at least 75% recycled materials, highlighting sustainable, zero-waste practices.
  • Holiday Market at La Grover and Chat des artistes (November 29 - December 1): Step into the studios of 50 talented artists on Rue Parthenais for a truly immersive holiday shopping experience. Split between La Grover (2065 Rue Parthenais) and Chat des artistes (2205 Rue Parthenais), this market offers a chance to explore the creative worlds of local artisans while finding unique, 100% locally made gifts.
  • Marché des Fêtes à l’Auditorium de Verdun (November 30 - December 1, December 7-8): The Collectif Créatif Montréal returns with its third edition of this festive holiday market, spread across two weekends at the Auditorium de Verdun. Open from 10 a.m. on November 30 to 1:30 p.m. on December 8, the event features over 90 local artisans showcasing handmade, one-of-a-kind gifts for all tastes.
  • Holiday Market at Alibi Barn (November 23-24, November 30 - December 1, December 7-8): Dive into the holiday spirit at this festive market held at Alibi Barn (422 Rue Main, Hudson, QC), running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. across six dates. Free to enter, the event supports NOVA Hudson through monetary donations. Highlights include over 30 local vendors (rotating daily), live music from local talents like Morgan Weinmeister, Alyssa Mirarchi, and a holiday choir, as well as food, coffee, hot chocolate, and festive drinks from Alibi Lounge. Guests can cozy up by the fire pit, enjoy a fire truck tour on December 1 (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), or visit Santa on December 1 at 1 p.m. and December 8 at 11 a.m. Other attractions include professional holiday photos, a Christmas photo booth, face painting (December 1), and charity raffles with fantastic local prizes. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., over 25 Ubisoft artisans will showcase unique, handcrafted treasures, including jewelry, wooden crafts, toys, illustrations, and festive treats. Perfect for holiday shopping, this event invites you to support local talent while immersing yourself in the season’s charm.   • Marché de Noël at La Station (November 30): Experience a different kind of holiday magic at La Station’s Christmas market, located at 201 Rue Berlioz, Verdun. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., browse a delightful selection of handmade jewelry, artisanal candles, festive decorations, creative stationery, knitted accessories, and more—each item brimming with authentic charm.   • Marché de Noël d’antan (November 23-24, November 30 - December 1): Step into the holiday magic at this nostalgic Christmas market in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, held at Parc des Éclusiers and the P20 parking lot in Vieux-Saint-Jean. On November 30 (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.) and December 1 (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.), explore the creations of over 40 talented local artisans and producers offering unique crafts and authentic flavours. Highlights include a prize raffle, live music from local performers, a festive photobooth, food trucks, and activities for all ages.   • Holiday Event by Chợ Đêm MTL, SUPERNAT, and Association des Vietnamiens Québécois (December 1): Celebrate the season with this festive event hosted by the AVQ at SUPERNAT, 4316 Rue Sainte-Catherine E, Montreal. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can enjoy a lineup of eight vendors, a specially curated menu of Vietnamese drinks by the Supernat team, music, and more. With free entry, it’s a vibrant celebration of Vietnamese culture, identity, and holiday cheer.
  • Holiday Season at Maisonneuve Market (December 1-23): Experience the festive magic of the holidays at Maisonneuve Market with a mix of events and activities for all ages. On December 14 in particular, enjoy a full day of free programming, including children’s storytelling with Caroline Beausoleil (10-11 a.m.), a visit from Santa Claus (11 a.m.-2 p.m.), and festive music from the Choeur les Quatre Temps choir (1-1:45 p.m. and 2-2:45 p.m.).
  • Holiday Market at UQAM (December 3-4): Compact yet thoughtfully curated, this market caters to students and locals looking for unique, budget-friendly gifts. With its accessible location and range of creative vendors, it’s a hidden gem for last-minute holiday shopping.
  • OG1 Holiday Market (December 4 and 5): From 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. each day, the inaugural OG1 Holiday Market will take place at the Cours Rio Tinto, adjacent to the Bell Centre in Montreal. This curated event will feature 15 of the city’s emerging artists, designers, and tastemakers, including Girl Crush, Double Dribble, and Pony—many of whom operate without physical storefronts. Attendees can enjoy offerings from food trucks, festive beverage stands, and music provided by DJs courtesy of Monster Energy, creating a vibrant atmosphere to celebrate the holiday season.
  • Le Beau Weekend Christmas Market (December 6-8): Quartz Co. is hosting the inaugural edition of Le Beau Weekend Christmas Market at their Mile-End store (5445 De Gaspé, Montreal). This unique market celebrates wellness, movement, art, and design, featuring an impressive lineup of local brands such as Foehn, Activité Physique, Want Les Essentiels, Hermust, Selv.Rituel, and Beside Magazine, among others. The event also features a family-friendly program designed to delight younger attendees, making it a festive outing for all ages.   • Marianne Fest Christmas Edition (December 7-8): Following its successful debut, Marianne Fest returns with a magical holiday market in the heart of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve at Église Très-Saint-Rédempteur (3530 rue Adam, Montreal). Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the event showcases around 40 local exhibitors offering unique creations, perfect for original Christmas gifts, while celebrating Quebec talent and craftsmanship.   • Marché de Noël at Les Jardins Intérieurs (December 7): Discover local holiday charm at this festive market located at 1705 Ave Victoria in Saint-Lambert. With over 30 regional artisans offering everything from jewelry and decorations to gourmet foods and wines, it’s a perfect spot for gift shopping. The event features hot chocolate in the morning, a violin performance from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., mulled wine in the afternoon, and children’s face painting from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Even Santa himself is scheduled to make an appearance!
  • Jean-Talon Holiday Market (December 7-8, December 14-15): Celebrate the season at Jean-Talon Market, beautifully transformed for the holidays and located on its north side at 7070 Henri-Julien Avenue. Over two festive weekends, visitors can indulge in local holiday products and participate in family-friendly activities, including ornament-making workshops, cooking sessions with p’tits chefs, and an obstacle course.   • Marché des Fêtes at Café SAT (December 8): Celebrate art, local culture, and responsible shopping at this festive market, starting at 11 a.m. at Café SAT. The salon brings together around 200 exhibitors from Québec, Canada, and beyond, offering a stunning array of handmade creations that reflect diverse artistic visions.
