Opened by longtime friends Philip Penalosa and Jean-Noel Quilatan, Café Kuya reflects their desire to stay close to family while sharing the flavours of their Filipino heritage. More than a neighbourhood spot, it’s a space that embodies the spirit of kuya—the older brother figure who looks out for others. That philosophy extends to their menu, where Montreal-roasted blends sit alongside specialty Filipino beans, and the food lineup features lechon sandwiches, siopao, and coconut-infused pies like buko and maja blanca.

Kuya serves as a hub for Brossard’s diverse community, hosting events, tastings, and workshops after hours. The atmosphere is unpretentious, warm, and welcoming—like a family kitchen that just happens to make some of the city’s best breakfast sandwiches, including a longganisa-laden masterpiece with a hash brown, egg, atchara pickles, and calamansi mayo on a soft brioche bun.
