Lulu Épicerie is a vibrant homage to Lebanon’s culinary and cultural heritage, tucked into Little Burgundy’s dynamic stretch of Notre-Dame West. Founded by Soufian Mamlouk and Mayim Z Salomé, this hybrid grab-and-go eatery and grocery store offers an authentic taste of Lebanese street food while supporting small producers from their homeland. From shawarma sizzling on charcoal grills to man’ouchés baked in a stone furnace imported directly from Lebanon, Lulu Épicerie merges tradition with modern Montreal flair.
Their marqouq bread—a thinner, crispier alternative to pita—absorbs every bit of the juicy shawarma fillings, elevating the experience. Must-tries include the beef shawarma, renowned for its bold, smoky flavour, and the half-and-half man’ouché with cheese and za’atar, topped with mint, tomatoes, and olives. Everything is crafted in-house, from marinades to bread, by a team of expert “malems” (masters of their craft), ensuring every bite feels like a piece of home.
The grocery shelves, though not yet fully stocked due to supply chain challenges, feature artisanal Lebanese goods like olive oil, spices, and products from local collectives such as Ya Habibi, which donates proceeds to charitable causes in the Middle East. The space itself evokes nostalgia with its “Beirut finish”—a nod to the city’s layered charm—and Habibi funk playing in the background.
