The folk spirit of Café Mariposa lives on, trading one Montreal institution for another. After 14 years on Côte-St-Luc Rd., the club is moving into the old Momesso’s space on Upper Lachine, swapping sub sandwiches for soulful ballads, blues riffs, and intimate performances five nights a week. Owner Victor Labelle, a veteran of the city’s bar scene and a lifelong devotee of ‘60s folk, is bringing his signature bohemian touch—tie-dye drapes, vintage guitars, and a wall of rock-and-roll history—into a bigger, more versatile space.

With room for 85 guests, an upgraded kitchen, and the prospect of a long-awaited liquor licence, Mariposa is set to expand its offerings while keeping its core identity intact. Sundays will continue to be reserved for its book club, and music lovers can expect the same eclectic mix of folk, blues, and jazz from emerging and established artists alike. A tribute to the legendary Mariposa Folk Festival, this club remains a haven for those who believe in the power of a good song, a strong coffee, and a room full of people who just get it.
