Since 1949, Restaurant Barry has been a cornerstone of Bedford, embodying the enduring charm of a family-run business. Founded by Alfred and Alfreda Barry as a small roadside canteen, the eatery has grown over the decades, transforming into a 44-seat restaurant while staying true to its roots as a community hub.
Now in the hands of the third generation, siblings Stéphanie and Dominic Bourdeau, the restaurant blends history with a modern approach. The duo divides the responsibilities—Dominic handles inventory and supplier relations, while Stéphanie oversees management and bookkeeping. Their children, representing the fourth generation, are already lending a hand, keeping the family legacy alive.
Recognized as one of Quebec’s top casse-croûtes, Barry draws visitors from across the province, thanks in part to its feature on Sur le Pouce. Through fires, expansions, and even the pandemic, the restaurant’s resilience is evident, with takeout booming when the dining room had to close. Today, it remains a vital thread in Bedford’s cultural fabric, serving comfort food with a side of nostalgia.
