The UQAM Sports Center, a key feature of campus life since its inauguration in 1997, offers students and the wider community an inclusive space for fitness and recreational activities. Spanning 5,000 square meters, the facility boasts a semi-Olympic swimming pool, a multi-sports hall with a running track, a climbing wall, and a comprehensive training room equipped with free weights, machines, and cardio equipment. This diverse offering makes it one of Montreal’s most versatile fitness centers.
Rooted in UQAM’s history, the Sports Center emerged to meet increasing demand following the 1976 Olympics and decades of steady growth in recreational activities. From its modest beginnings in the Lafontaine building to its state-of-the-art present, the center has continuously adapted to community needs. During the 1998 ice storm, it even served as a shelter for hundreds, reflecting its integral role in the city.
Today, the Sports Center provides training spaces, recreational activities like basketball and futsal, first aid certifications, and swimming programs. It remains a hub for health, fitness, and community engagement.
